J’ai recement découvert un nouveau truc idiot. Enfin, c est loin d’être nouveau puisque c’est juste comme ca qu’ils étaient tous a l’origine. Le fixed gear, ou traduit en francais, le pignon fixe.

Peut-être que manky, étant londonien tu as eu l’occasion de croiser des cyclistes qui vont a deux cents a l’heure avec des vélos sans freins et ultra dépouillés. Parce que le fixed c’est ça, un vélo de piste (d’où son autre nom, track bike), qui ne possède pas de freins, ultra léger et dont la principal caractéristique réside dans sa roue arrière, plus précisément dans le pignon de celle-ci. Ce dernier est en effet fixe, c’est a dire pas de roue libre. Vous devez vous dire “mais c’est idiot, et ça doit être horriblement casse gueule”. Et bien oui. Mais c’est particulièrement jouissif. Pour avoir essayé cinq minute de rouler avec ces engins, c’est putain de jouissif. En deux seconde, tu es à 40 km sans forcer et le seul moyen de freiner est de bloquer la roue arrière en arrêtant net de pédaler, ce qui entraîne un dérapage amusant et parfaitement contrôlable au vue du poids plus qu’insignifiant de la bestiole. Parce que le fixed, c est ça, des dérapages à tout bout de champs et étant clairement collé sur le guidon de ton vélo, puisque que c’est le seul moyen de faire des longue glissade contrôlé.

Cette drôle d’idée nous vient encore une fois de nos homologues d’outre atlantique. Depuis environ cinq ans, le fixed gear connais une second jeunesse grâce à des gens totalement allumés, venant pour la plupart du skate ou du BMX, qui ont vue en ce vélo un gros potentiel d’amusement. Pour vous rendre compte en image du truc, voici le trailer d’une vidéo, d’ailleurs réalisé par un photographe de skate, tourné dans les rues de San Francisco. Depuis que j’ai vue ça, j’aime encore plus cette ville et j’ai rajouté dans la sous catégorie “SF” de ma liste des chose a faire avant de mourir (Désolé léa, ma liste a foutrement grossi sans ton accord (en même temps j’espère que la tienne aussi)), faire du track bike dans les descente de hight haishburry.

Pour mettre en œuvre la fin du chat, j’ai décidé de transposer le début de notre conversation sur le MacBook Air en forme de post…

L’autre jour j’étais dans le AppleStore � Regent Street en train de regarder un peu les jolis macs et pour demander si c’était possible qu’ils fassent des livraisons � partir du magasin (ils peuvent, et si tu fais ton achat le matin ce sera le même jour, et puis si tu habites � Londres c’est gratuit en plus…). Pendant que j’y était, je devais absolument jouer un peu avec un MacBook Air, j’avais pas encore pris le temps d’aller � l’AppleStore pour le voir.

Il est très sympathique, mais j’ai quand même quelques réticences.

C’est sûrement parce que je n’ai fait qu’écouter les gens qui disaient “il est super léger” que j’ai un peu négligé le côté relatif. C’est léger pour un ordi portable. Je dois admettre que je m’attendais � quelque chose de phénoménale, le poids d’un livre tout au plus (par contre, pas “Fundamentals of Database Systems” par Elmasri et Navathe, ce livre doit peser plus qu’un Mac Pro) genre non seulement est ce qu’on pourrait le glisser dans une enveloppe Manila, mais si on ramassait cette enveloppe on ne se poserait pas trop de questions sur le poids du contenu.

L’autre chose, c’était le clavier. Il me semble que c’est � peu près le même genre de clavier que sur les MacBook, et si c’est le cas, je sais pas comment vous faites. Les touches sont basses, et ça c’est bien, je n’aime pas devoir envoyer une équipe de secours pour retrouver mon doigt une fois que j’ai enfoncé une touche. Par contre les touches sont dures, j’étais jamais sûr si j’avais bien appuyé sur une touche ou sur la coque du MacBook Air et ce n’était pas très fluide. Par exemple, mon vieux PowerBook (qui me sert tous les jours) � aussi des touches basses, par contre il suffit juste de poser son doigt dessus et sans appuyer ils s’enfoncera. C’est largement plus agréable.

Je pense qu’il est tout � fait possible de se servir d’un MacBook Air comme ordinateur principale, ça dépend des besoins. L’absence de lecteur optique pourrait sembler gênant, mais je me suis rendu compte que je me sers très rarement des lecteurs de nos jours. Bien sûr, le puissance n’est pas du feu de Dieu, surtout quand on voit qu’en ordinateur de bureau on peut avoir un octo-cœurs avec 32GB de RAM si on veut, mais je ne connais pas beaucoup de gens qui ont besoin de cette puissance. Attention, je ne dis pas que tout le monde pourrait se satisfaire avec un MacBook Air, mais en sachant qu’un MacBook Air de base est plus performant que l’ordinateur dont je me sers tous les jours sans faille et dont je suis satisfait de la performance (et je suis un peu exigeant quand même), je n’ai pas de doutes qu’un MacBook Air pourrait servir de machine principale pour beaucoup de gens.

Tartif par exemple, Vinz, Demente, Göt, leurs parents, la majorité de leurs amis, en faite la majorité des gens qu’ils connaissent…

Juste une petite annonce pour vous dire que ppgac risque de passer hors-ligne pendant quelques heures ce weekend, j’ai besoin de faire quelques tâches de maintenance.

Aussi, je vais au ski à partir de mercredi prochain, et ceci pendant 2 semaines alors si c’est silence radio de ma part, c’est normale. J’essayerais de me connecter, mais c’est pas sûr que j’y arrives. Ah, et si mon serveur explose pendant que je suis pas là, il n’y a pas grand chose que je peux y faire.
